Notes :- (a) Road Kargil-Pensila (4401 m)- Padum opened only from July to October. (b) Close to Padum are a set of ancient rock carvings and two monasteries, the STAGRINGMO and PIBITING Gompas. A two-hour trek from PADUM takes one to KARSHA with the largest and the wealthiest of the Gompas. It dates back to the 16TH Century. Other interesting monasteries include the castle-like gompa at SANI( 6 km from Padum), the splendid STONGDAY (18 km), perched on a rocky outcrop, BURDAN (12 km) and the spectacularly located PHUGTAL just of the Padum- Manali Trail. |
