Ladakh - The Last Shangrila : 5 Nights / 6 Days

Ladakh - The Last Shangrila

Day - 01.
Arrive at Leh airport, received by our representative and escorted to the hotel. After a cup of tea, retire to room for rest. Evening, leisure walks in town and visit Sankar Gompa/ Leh Palace/ Shanti Stupa. Overnight in hotel.

Day - 02.
It is a full day tour till late evening. The tour encompasses visiting some of the major historical and religious landmarks in Ladakh, i.e. Shey Palace (15- km), Thiksey Monastery (20- km), Hemis Monastery (43 km from Leh) and Stok Palace museum (14 km). All these are on the bank of River Indus. Shey is the oldest capital of Ladakh from where its earlier Tibetan kings ruled. Perched on top of a huge rock are the royal palace and the monasteries adorned with brilliantly coloured murals and a 7.5 metre golden statue of the Buddha. Thiksey monastery one of the most impressive in the area is spectacularly located and is renowned for its beautiful murals. Hemis (43- km) is of course the wealthiest and biggest monastery in Ladakh and is best known for its magnificent summer festival that celebrates the birth of Guru Padmasambhava. Stok Palace is the home of the erstwhile royal family. Its museum has collection of beautiful royal costumes & jewelry, exquisite thankas (scrolls), porcelain, jade, weapon and armour.

Day - 03.
It is a daylong drive to visit famous Pangong Lake, 156 km from Leh. At an altitude of 4298m (14,200 ft), 150-km long and 2- 10 km wide, it is the largest Brackish Water Lake in Asia. Enroute visit Taktok monastery and a drive over Changla Pass (17,900 ft/ 5475M) to reach Pangong. Return by late evening and Overnight at Hotel.

Day - 04.
The day is devoted to picnicking and for some adventure activities. Those of you who have never ventured into adventure activities, we shall initiate them into it and for others, and they can relive their youthful days. It is white water rafting in the Indus River.

Should you still like to explore the region, it is a full day visit to lower Indus valley, i.e. Magnetic Hill (30-km), Patthar Sahib Gurudwara (27 km) and other magnificent monasteries at Likir (65 km), Ridzong (75 km) and Alchi (70-km). Alchi is among the Ladakh’s most beautiful and oldest monasteries. Over a thousand years old, its wall paintings are reminiscent of the Ajanta style of paintings. Enroute, the breath-taking landscape and scenic beauty that keep you captivated during your journey. Overnight at hotel.

Day - 05.
It is a 2-hour drive from Leh to visit Khardungla Pass. At an altitude of 18,380 ft, it is the highest motorable road in the world, traversing along the ancient trade route from Leh to Central Asia. The breath-taking view from the pass surveys an entire length of the Indus Valley in the south and a magnificent panorama of snow clad peaks of the Karkoram, Ladakh and the Zanskar Ranges of the Great Himalayas. After lunch, rest of the day at disposal to visit and explore market. Overnight at hotel.

Day - 06.
Departure for Delhi.

Day - 05.
The next two days will be devoted to wander in Changthang area, Southeast of Leh. This area is possibly the most attractive as far as scenic beauty, lakes and is famous for wildlife, Changpa nomadic tribes and high altitude lakes are concerned. On way to Tsomoriri lake (240 km from Leh), visit Shey Palace (15 km), Thiksey monastrey (20 km) and medicinal Hot Springs at Chumathang. Spend the night in camps on bank of Tsomoriri Lake, amidst breathtaking beauty.

Day - 06.
Today, it will be driving through the Rupshu plateau, rich for its wild life, particularly around the Tsokar Lake. It offers an opportunity to interact with Changapa nomadic tribe. By evening reach Sarchu, on the Leh- Manali road for overnight stay in camps.

Day - 07.
It is adventurous drive on the Leh- Manali road, over the Baralachala Pass (4892m) and Rothang Pass (3980m), to reach Manali by late evening. Overnight at Manali.
